Favorite Restaurants in North County, SD

The Land + Water Co. - Carlsbad

IMG_0093.JPG

Summary:
Located at the end of Carlsbad Village Dr., Land + Water Co. has a mix of seafood and traditional plactes with a twist. The restaurant sits on the left side of where Ocean House used to be. Next to it, conjoined to the restaurant, is Sun Diego (weird, right?). But don't let that dete you. They have a great outdoor patio that sits near the street - but not on the street - and indoor seating with plenty of booths and tables.

Recommendations:
The Butter Butter Salad, Finger Roll, and Bacon Lardon (pictured) are amazing! However, the menu does change frequently. Click here for full-menu: View

Service:
I've always had great service while eating at L+W, all waiters/waitresses have been attentive and knowledgeable of the menu items and specials.

Atmosphere:
L+W has a sophisticated yet relaxed vibe. Whether that be you're sitting on the outdoor patio or inside, it has always been a great experience for me. Though I do typically sit outside during the day and inside at night.

Happy hour:
Daily from 3:00-5:30pm.

The 3rd Corner - Encinitas

Summary:
Looking at 3rd Corner from the outside reading, "The 3rd Corner Wine Shop + Bistro", you wouldn't really guess that they have THE best brunch menu out there. Especially if you like endless mimosas that include a meal!

Recommendations:
Yup. The top of their brunch menu reads - "$20.95 Includes "Almost Bottomless" Mimosas. 10-3pm Saturday & Sunday". They also note that if you seem intoxicated you won't be served so keep your cool or head out to another bar off of the 101 ;)

Service:
Attentive and friendly. Overall, service has always been good and fast.

Atmosphere:
It's a small, quaint restaurant with outdoor and indoor seating. I usually sit outdoors because the beach isn't far and brunch is always better outdoors. Duh.

Happy Hour:
Served Tuesday-Saturday 3-6 pm & 10pm-1am

The Daily News Cafe - Carlsbad

Summary:
Another favorite brunch spot - The Daily News Cafe. (Located across the street from Land + Water Co.) It's breakfast menu and lunch menu have that home-cooked meal feel that just makes you feel so calm, paired with the perfect cup of Joe - it's makes any Saturday that much better.

Recommendations:
BYOO - Build Your Own Omelette - In the words of Shia Lebouf, "JUST DO IT!". You can add any meats, veggies, cheeses, ect. ( some for an additional charge). But just look at that perfect plate of goodness. I believe I made mine with bell peppers, avo, mozzerella (or provolone), spinach, tomatoes, and onions. Seriously the best thing I've ever had.

Service:
Employees are super friendly, food always comes out fast. Coffee, water, mimosas, whatever you have, they always come by to refill your cup without asking.

Atmosphere:
Relaxing environment. Indoor/Outdoor Patio, however the outdoor patio is covered above so it's always a go-to for me. A small cafe feel and really great food. You can't go wrong.

Happy Hour:
No happy hour but breakfast is served all day! So that's kind of a good trade off, right?

Wrench + Rodent Seabasstropub - Oceanside

Summary:
I don't think my words are good enough to summarize this restaurant. So instead, click here for their website and see what I'm talking about.

Recommendations:
Sit on the inside of the restaurant. Outside sits very close to the street - which can be cool - but with cars zooming by and pedstrians smoking cigarettes, it's easy to lose your appetite. As far as the food goes, I highly recommend asking the waiter what the new items or specials are. They are always changing their menu and everything I've tried that was suggested to me, I loved! Made the experience that much better.

Service:
Can't complain. Really.

Atmosphere:
It's a fun atmosphere. At first I was so confused as to what side the restaurant was on because it's conjoined with another (I forget the name of it now). There is a small brewery in the back of the restaurant with a patio and outdoor lawn which is really nice during the day if you're waiting for a table!

Happy Hour:
No happy hour :(

Curry + More - San Marcos

Summary:
The hidden gem of North County! Or at least that's what I like to call it. A little background on how I became so obsessed with this place... when I used to work in marketing, my department would go to Curry & More once or twice every month to grab lunch and catch up. The first time I had it, I instantly fell in love. It's been two years now and I still find myself craving it, badly.

Recommendations:
Everything on their menu is to die for. I started off with the Chicken Jalfrezi which is spicy chicken cooked with tomatoes, onions, bell pepper and ginger. But NOW I'm hooked on their Chicken Tikka Massala which is Chicken Tikka cooked in their signature tomato and butter cream sauce. I recommend getting it spicy (6-7 is what I get).

Service:
Service has always been good here. We're always received our food, drinks and check promptly.

Atmosphere:
Small, relaxing, quiet restaurant. A plus is that they have large windows in front of the kitchen so you can see the chef's at work - which I personally enjoy

Happy Hour:
No happy hour, but their lunch deal is $11.00 for an entree, salad, rice, lentil soup and naan bread. So worth it!

Blue Ocean Robata + Sushi Bar - Carlsbad

Summary:

Recommendations:
French Kiss + literally anything else on the menu. It's all amazing. For drinks I usually have their large sake (which is huge) and/or a coconut kiss - sweet, not too sweet, perfect amount of coconut flavor, served in a martini glass. Fan-sayyyy.

Service:
Service has been a hit or miss for me, but everyone that works there is always willing to help out if your server has been M.I.A. Which is always a plus.

Atmosphere:
The decor of this place is everything. From the moment you walk up to the door, to the moment you're seated, everything is visually appealing. The only downfall about this restaurant that it's an open floor with lack of dividers, so it does get a bit noisy (when I say a bit I mean loud AF so let's just be clear on that).

Karl Strauss - Carlsbad

Summary:
Karl Strauss has been a favorite of mine since I turned 21. Their beer isn't exactly my favorite per se but the food has been a top pick from the start. The menu features a wide variety from seafood to mac and cheese. Even when I was vegan, I ordered their vegan-friendly items and all of it was cooked perfectly. Fast forwading to now and nothing has changed, except maybe the decor. Which is definitely a thumbs up in my book.

Recommendations:
As I mentioned above, their poke is amazing! (2nd picture in the top slide show). I also suggest doing to-go orders. They tend to load up the servings, which isn't common, but who's complaining? Their black bean burger could fool anyone for an actual burger and their buffalo wings are 4.5 star worthy.

Service:
Awesome servers who are very attentive.

Atmosphere:
It's a fun, chill place to grab a beer, quick bite or meet a group of friends for dinner.

Happy Hour:
